Step Up TV spot promotes MySpace profile

I don't watch a lot of TV, but I just saw a spot for an upcoming movie - looks like it's about dancing - called Step Up. Then at the end of the commercial, they pop the URL for its MySpace profile. This is the first time I've seen an offline ad promoting a MySpace profile. Interestingly, this movie doesn't even have its own website. I'm tempted to think that for teen-targeted movies such as this one, a MySpace profile would receive more traffic than a website.

Hey Shig, it's a good observation. I have actually noticed more movies doing too and I think we will start to see it more because a MySpace profile is a lot more viral then a stand alone web site. Already another teen movie called "John Tucker Must Die" promotes their MySpace profile: http://myspace.com/johntucker/ at the end of it's commercial.

Other movies like X-Men Last Stand and Superman have also had official MySpace profiles to compliment their official sites. Studios must include myspace as part of their overall marketing especially to reach that teen demographic who spends so much time there.
